The Most Joyful People

Galatians 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Ephesians 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Who can give joy better than the Holy Spirit? The answer is NO ONE! The most joyful people are Spirit-filled Christians and the most joyful among them are the most committed ones. It is no coincidence that they are also the most loving, have the most peace, the most patience, the most gentleness, are the best of the good, have the strongest faith, the most righteousness and have God*s truth.

Nehemiah 8:10: Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

There is no joy like the joy of the LORD and there is no strength like His. We must not get stuck in a belief that joy is an accident of nature or favorable circumstances or that we are the sources of that joy. All we mortals can produce are cheap imitations of the fruit of the Spirit.

Believers have different measures of the different characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit but it is best to have the joy of the least joyful Christian than the (false) joy of the most fortunate unbeliever. That is not the joy of the Lord. I have heard more than one believer say I am happier now when I am sad than I was before when I was happy. This is not to say that we won*t be persecuted, suffer, mourn, weep and have sorrow over sin. Before I was saved I did not have the sensitivity or capacity to care or to appropriately mourn, weep or be sorrowful, OR the capacity to have the joy of the Lord. Even Jesus wept.

John 11:35 Jesus wept.
